Day 90

13/06/2020 Saturday, Sunny Played table tennis with Sean in the morning. Best of five, 11 points each. I won 3:1 after losing for a long time. Sean cried out at the end of the game, complaining about luck again. He shouted, battered around and finally cried in his mom's arms. Unlike before, he calmed down in a while himself and said thank you when I offered him a codial drink (squash). Well done! New Covid cases break out in Beijing. It's suspected that the source is salmon meat, which are imported from abroad. It seems there's good reason to wash the grocery bought from supermarkets, which I deemed as over-cautious when Lili insisted. We still have a lot to learn about this virus and it's good to be cautious.

Day 89

12/06/2020 Friday, Cloudy The stocks continue to drop after yesterday's selling off. The London market plumtes in the early minutes of trading. After 10-15 minutes, it starts to recover. Still some stocks like HSBC reach the lowest point of the year late in the day. By the end of US markets, most stocks recover a bit compared with yesterday. But Tesla finally dropped in contrast to the crazy high of above $1000 of yesterday. In retrospect, it's really a gamble to buy in yesterday amid record drop of market prices. Today's recovery is not gauranteed and probably a fluke.

All three major U.S. stock indexes lost well over 5%, posting their worst one-day percentage drops since March 16, when markets were sent into freefall by the abrupt economic lockdowns put in place to contain the pandemic. The Nasdaq snapped a three-day streak of record closing highs. Coronavirus came to UK 'on at least 1,300 separate occasions' "It wasn't a patient zero," he added. The study showed that less than 0.1% of those imported cases came directly from China. Instead the UK's coronavirus epidemic was largely initiated by travel from Italy in late February, Spain in early-to-mid-March and then France in mid-to-late-March. The study estimates 80% of those initial cases arrived in the country between 28 Feb and 29 March - the time the ...

Day 87

10/06/2020 Wednesday, rain Coronavirus: UK economy could be worst hit among leading nations, says OECD Britain's economy is likely to slump by 11.5% in 2020, outstripping falls in other developed economics of Germany, France, Spain and Italy, it said. If there were a second peak in the pandemic, the UK economy could contract by 14%. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development described the impact as "dire" everywhere. In its latest assessment, the OECD found that the trade, tourism, and hospitality sectors , which make up large parts of the UK's service-based economy, have suffered under lockdown restrictions introduced by the government. ========================================================================== Thug A journalist who had traced the history of the word, told the BBC in 2015 that "thug" was brought to Western society from India in 1897, later used by politicians and in the media, even reclaimed by hip-hop artists such...
